It is necessary to collect herbs, roots and flowers at certain times of the year, in places quite remote from cities and roads. There are several rules that should be followed when collecting and preparing herbs.
In order to stock up on herbs for the winter, you need to have time to collect them at the beginning of flowering. Leaves - before and during flowering. Rhizomes - early spring or autumn. Fruits - during their ripeness. It is better to collect herbs on sunny days. Under no circumstances should you collect herbs in fields and meadows with chemical fertilizers, near the shores of polluted water bodies, along railways and near highways and roads with active traffic. Plants should not be uprooted. It should be remembered that many plants are protected and cannot be collected. When collecting, do not squeeze flowers and leaves, do not use plastic bags - in them the herbs begin to “sweat” and later, when dried, turn black. Herbs are not washed before drying, but are crushed. Everything collected is laid out on a cloth in a thin layer, dried in the shade, in a well-ventilated area. Before drying, the rhizomes must be washed well and then cut. In winter, only very well-dried (until brittle) herbs can be stored. They must be protected from light, so it is best for xDark glass containers and resealable cardboard boxes are suitable for wounds. Stock up for just one winter!
