Nowadays, the word “drug” is on everyone’s lips, but not many know what it is. Let's give it a simple definition: a drug is a substance that, due to its properties, causes an effect on the brain and develops physical and mental dependence. In the Republic of Belarus, as in most countries of the world, heroin, methadone, LSD, hemp preparations, ecstasy and many other substances that cause irreversible harm to the body are recognized as drugs. People who constantly use drugs develop a disease - drug addiction. Yes - yes, it is a DISEASE, not a bad habit that can be quit at any time. Moreover, it is a very difficult disease to treat.
Where does drug addiction begin? Of course, from the first try of the drug. Many people try a drug for the first time not for pleasure, but to satisfy other needs, which are often associated with difficulties and problems. Most try the drug in order to become “in” in the company and not stand out. Other reasons for drug use are often cited: “There is nothing to do”; "Just like that"; "Fashionable" etc.
When using drugs, a person begins to develop physical and mental dependence. First of all, mental dependence is formed. Information about the first drug test remains with a person forever, and no operations will help here. The drug gradually replaces all ordinary positive emotions. When a person finds himself in a difficult life situation, he remembers only one way out - a drug.
Why, after trying a drug, is it impossible to refuse it in the future? Along with mental dependence, there is also physical dependence; it often develops later than mental dependence, and only with its onset does the drug user begin to understand that drugs have become a problem for him. With physical dependence, the drug becomes an integral part of the body, necessary for its normal functioning, like air, water, food. The first signal of a lack of drug in the body is “withdrawal”. This is not only pain, but also “internal icy cold” without any hope of being able to warm up, cold sweat, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, incessant runny nose, weakness, aching joints. In this case, the only way to stop the drug user’s torment is with a new dose of the drug. And so again and again...
The average life expectancy of a drug addict is approximately 7-10 years of continuous drug use. Of course, there are drug addicts who live with drugs for 15, 20, or more years, because they undergo periodic treatment. But there are also those who die because of them at the first try or 6-8 months after starting regular use.
In the Republic of Belarus, illegal transactions with drugs (manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, forwarding and sale) are criminally prosecuted, and it is impossible to use drugs without conflicting with the law. The Criminal Code provides for several articles related to drugs. Even if you have not tried the drug, but you have it (no matter for what reason), there is a possibility of ending up behind bars for several years. This is the price to pay for drugs.
How to avoid becoming a drug addict? The simplest answer is don't try drugs. Anyone can be tempted to try drugs, no matter where they live, where they study, how smart they are, or who their parents are. The main thing is to be able to give up the drug. That is why the best defense against drug addiction is a categorical refusal to “try”. JUST SAYING “NO” IS ENOUGH. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOUR REASONS TO EVERYONE. Sometimes it is easier to avoid situations (places, companies) where drugs may be offered.
Remember:By giving up drugs today, you keep your health, you keep your friends, keep your money and things, your children will be healthy, you will remain free and independent. You choose life.
