Going out on the ice is always fraught with danger, and now, during its formation, especially so. Ice becomes safe when it reaches a thickness of at least 10 centimeters. In reservoirs with fast currents, in places of underwater springs, runoff water, near reeds, bushes, trees, frozen snags, the strength of the ice is weakened.
If you still fall through, immediately get rid of heavy objects and try to stay on the surface of the water. Try to swim out, get out onto solid ice, sticking a knife or the end of a ski pole into it. In a narrow hole, take a horizontal position, resting your feet on the opposite edge or making swimming movements. Pull one leg out, then the other, roll, crawl away. In a large ice hole, get out onto the ice at the fall site. If the ice is weak, break it in the right direction until you realize that it is strong.
To help a person who has fallen through, do not approach the place where the ice breaks, but crawl with your arms and legs spread out to the sides. Throw the victim the end of a rope, cable, belt, scarf, jacket, ski pole; a pole, board, ladder that needs to be pushed along the ice can help. As soon as the victim grabs the object, pull without sudden movements, remaining in a horizontal position.
Immediately change the rescued person into dry clothes and shoes, and force him to move actively. If you are far from your home, light a fire on the shore, take shelter in a tent or in a nearby house.
