The causes of “orange peel” have been debated since the 70s of the last century. The scientific name for cellulite is “lipodystrophy” - a disorder of lipid (fat) metabolism due to impaired blood and lymph circulation.
Direct or indirect causes of the disease are:
- hormonal imbalance (malfunction of the ovaries, thyroid diseases, other endocrine disorders);
- features of physique, skin structure and metabolism;
- protein metabolism disorder;
- violation of diet;
- use of products containing hormonal supplements;
- smoking.
Under the influence of these factors, microcirculatory disorders occur in the subcutaneous fat tissue, as a result of which oxygen does not reach the adipose tissue cells and they die. Since adipose tissue is located in peculiar cells, dense lumps of fat are formed there, which create the “orange peel” effect. It is a mistake to believe that lipodystrophy occurs only in obese people. Pronounced signs of it are sometimes observed even in very thin and athletic women. And some fat women, on the contrary, can boast of elastic and smooth skin. But there is one serious factor - common to all women - playing with weight: if you lose weight, you gain weight. By the way, phlebologists talk about the relationship between cellulite and varicose veins. So if you notice orange peel on your legs, check your veins!
Medical centers and beauty salons offer various procedures to get rid of cellulite. Some of them are associated with the action of low-frequency current, with the help of which they either destroy subcutaneous fat (electrolipolysis) or stimulate muscle contraction, thereby accelerating the process of removing products of the breakdown of fatty tissue (hardware lymphatic drainage). Others, such as mesotherapy, involve introducing microdoses of nutritional and therapeutic cocktails under the skin. At the initial stage, massage (manual or vacuum) is quite effective. Anti-cellulite creams are very popular, which improve microcirculation of blood and lymph, make the skin denser and more elastic, and tubercles less noticeable. But to ensure that the beneficial substances reach their destination – the fatty subcutaneous tissue – it is recommended to combine medicinal cosmetics with body wraps, and this is a salon procedure.
But you can resist cellulite on your own. Self-massage with anti-cellulite cream, gymnastics, proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle will help you. Take vitamins E and C, they are responsible for blood supply to the skin and strengthen the fibers in connective tissues. Eat seaweed and sea fish. These products also strengthen the connective fibers of tissues, which prevents the appearance of cellulite or slows down its development. Include more vegetables, bran or whole grain bread, and fresh herbs in your diet. And be sure to limit your alcohol consumption and smoking.
