Diseases such as allergies are becoming more and more common these days. In modern science, the term “allergy” refers to increased sensitivity to a particular substance. This is where the term “allergen” came from - a substance that can cause an allergic reaction. Allergens are found among food products, chemicals, drugs, varnishes, paints, pollen, animal hair and others. They can enter the body in various ways - through the mouth, respiratory tract, skin, and sometimes through various injections.
Is there any way to prevent the development of allergies or reduce the incidence of allergies?
Particular attention to a child’s nutrition in the first year of his life can delay the onset of allergies and reduce the likelihood of its development. Breast milk provides children with immunological protection against infections and future food allergies. This protection may persist into adolescence. When babies receive complementary feeding, food items are introduced one at a time and gradually. The most common causes of allergies in young children are eggs, milk, chocolate, citrus fruits, strawberries, seafood and wheat.
How can I prevent or limit exposure to common airborne allergens (pollen, fungal spores, dust and pet dander)?
- Do not keep windows open during flowering.
- Do not hang washed clothes and bedding outside - pollen and spores may accumulate on them.
- During the period of active flowering of plants, try to go outside less often, especially in windy weather.
- Take a shower and wash your hair after being outdoors on windy days - allergens settle on the hair.
- After going outside, always wash your hands and rinse your eyes with cool water - this will help get rid of clinging pollen.
How can you avoid household allergens?
- Regularly carry out wet cleaning in the house.
- Get rid of carpets and replace heavy curtains with blinds or wash curtains.
- It is advisable to remove dust-collecting items - books, various trinkets, dried flowers.
- Replace upholstered furniture with fabric upholstery with leather or vinyl.
- Change the filters in your vacuum cleaner more often.
- Let the doors to the toilet and bathroom always be closed.
Anyone suffering from allergic diseases should:
- avoid stress;
- get enough sleep: sleep at least 6-8 hours daily;
- develop a healthy, properly balanced diet for yourself;
- do physical exercises;
- try doing deep breathing exercises or taking infusions and decoctions of antiallergic plants.
If all the recommended measures do not suppress the allergy, you should consult a doctor who will prescribe individual treatment.
